We throw about a lot of different words in our aesthetics world that may not mean a whole lot to anyone new to the field looking into treatments for the first time. So, for those returning clients who are just looking for a little more info, or those who are new to Trikwan, here is a quick run-down of some of our favourite aesthetics terms and treatments:

A is for – Aqualyx
Aqualyx is a fat dissolving injectable treatment that takes less than 30 minutes and is suitable for those looking to shed those last stubborn fat pockets that can’t be shifted by exercise and dieting. Effective treatment usually requires 2-4 sessions with 4-6 week intervals and can target fat pockets in a variety of areas of the body, including under-chin, stomach, hips, under arm and inner thigh, among others.

B is for – Botulinum Toxin
Botulinum Toxin has long been one of the staple aesthetic treatments that every aesthetic clinic out there will offer. Toxin is an injectable treatment that removes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing and paralysing the underlying muscles where those wrinkles occur. It is a short-term treatment that lasts up to 4 months and therefore requires multiple clinic visits to maintain your desired results.

C is for – Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and skincare hero when used correctly in your skincare routine. It serves to brighten the skin and tackle pigmentation caused by sun damage or acne. It must be used in its L-Ascorbic Acid form at a concentration of 10-20% to be effective but should not be used if you suffer with acne as, often, this can exacerbate your symptoms.

D is for – Dermal Filler
Dermal Filler has become the main kid on the aesthetics block in the last two decades, with an ever-increasing number of fillers available on the market, of varying price and quality. There are permanent and non-permanent dermal fillers and the most commonly used is the non-permanent Hyaluronic Acid-based dermal filler. Fillers are very versatile, able to be formulated in a variety of ways to resolve a multitude of concerns. Adding volume, rejuvenating skin quality, sculpting the nose, cheeks and lips, balancing the facial profile, reducing the appearance of lines, wrinkles and scarring.

E is for – Enhancement
For most dermal filler treatments, the goal is either to enhance or rejuvenate the facial features. Enhancement treatments aim to add volume to areas of the face to sculpt features that you already have rather than to build back volume that may have been lost with age. Often enhancement treatments are performed in our younger patients, but they can be the answer to your desired result at any age. Examples of enhancements treatments include: Jawline Enhancement, Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty, Lip Fillers, Profile Balancing and Cheek Fillers, among others.

F is for – Frown Lines
Frown Lines are a very common aesthetic concern that has been successfully treated for years using Botulinum Toxin injections. These little lines form as we age and our skin loses its elasticity and so is less able to bounce back into its smooth relaxed shape.

G is for – Golden Ratio
The Golden Ratio, 1:1.618, also known as Phi, to put it simply is the mathematical number for beauty. Dating back 2500 years to ancient Greece, this ratio is abundant throughout nature, art, architecture and, of course, aesthetics. Numerous studies have shown that generally, there are a huge number of facial markers in facial proportions that align with the golden ratio of 1:1.618. Thus, this ratio is often used by aesthetic practitioners to help sculpt the facial features when using dermal filler and other techniques.

H is for – Hyperhidrosis
Hyperhidrosis is a lesser-known condition that is actually quite common among the general population and has very easy fix. Hyperhidrosis is the fancy name for excessive sweating, and it can be easily treated in only 10-15 minutes using Botulinum Toxin injections into the axilla (the armpit).

I is for – Inflammation
Inflammation plays a key role in many conditions that can lead to our most common aesthetic concerns. Acne, Hyperpigmentation, Melasma, Rosacea, Scarring and Photodamage from the sun all have important inflammatory components which are important to understand before treating these conditions. It is also understood that inflammation in the body is one of the most essential processes for us to research further as it becomes clear that they have a complex and key role in many medical conditions.

J is for – Jawline + Jowls
The Jawline is one of the most striking areas that we can treat in clinic and there are a variety of treatment options for this area depending on what result you are looking for. Using a combination of dermal filler and toxin, or each on their own, we can achieve: Masculinisation of the Jawline, Jawline Slimming, Reduction of Jowls, Enhancement of the Jaw Angle and Balancing of the Facial Profile.

K is for – Keratinocyte
Keratinocytes are the main type of cell found in the outermost layer of our skin. They form our skin’s barrier against environmental damage and are the first line of defence in our immune system. These cells are constantly shed and replaced by new cells and therefore are the target of many skincare interventions, especially those that promote cell turnover in order to brighten and smooth out skin tone.

L is for – Lip Filler
Our aesthetics alphabet wouldn’t be complete without Lip fillers. Since Kylie Jenner’s lip filler confession in 2015, the demand for all varieties of this treatment has remained high among many in the industry. In 2016, our Trikwan doctors created their own unique lip filler technique, the ‘Trikwan Cupid’s Bow Lip Filler’ Treatment, which gained international acclaim in the likes of Vogue and Asiana Magazines, and focuses on shape rather than excess volume.

M is for – Melanocyte
Melanocytes are the pigment-producing cell type that sits at the bottom of the top layer of the skin, the epidermis. The amount of melanin pigment these cells produce is what is responsible for our different skin tones. These cells are the culprit behind a variety of skincare concerns including hyperpigmentation, melasma, and sun-spots. Treatments for these concerns often include the use of Hydroquinone which prevents the function of Tyrosinase (the enzyme involved in producing melanin), therefore lightening those areas of skin where it is applied.

What our patients really think...

The most professional, down to earth, friendly aestheticians I could of wished for. I was pretty hesitant to get anything done to my face as I didn’t want the typical over done ‘instagram’ look.

I wasn’t pressured into doing anything outright and was told about all the possible options I could take and the differences between them and what would suit me. I have had two sessions and over that time, I am beyond pleased with the the results! Dr Zoya has masterfully kept my face the same but just enhanced and corrected things certain in places.

Would definitely recommend if you want a realistic, subtle, natural yet major improvement to any problem areas.
