When creating the AAMG in 2019, our Trikwan doctors didn’t only want to keep up to date on all aspects of aesthetics research, but they also had the aim of advancing the field of aesthetic medicine by making meaningful contributions to the research in this field. By collaborating to create evidence-based medical research that will advance safety standards for, and regulation of, aesthetic practitioners, they aim to improve patient safety and treatment outcomes across the industry.

Understanding Periorbital Vascular Anatomy – Aesthetics Journal
A comprehensive understanding of the body’s underlying anatomy is essential for safe and high-quality aesthetic treatments. As highly qualified medical doctors, Dr Zoya and Dr Sanjay are experts in this field. In 2019, Dr Zoya wrote this educational piece in the Aesthetics Journal, which details the complex anatomy of the arteries and veins that surround the eye, knowledge essential to the administration of safe injectable treatments in this area. Dr Zoya’s article advises practitioners on how they should avoid the rare, but serious, complication of vision loss following the blockage of an artery with HA filler, as well as detailing the recommended emergency management plan to be followed in the very rare case that this should happen. Dr Zoya concludes that understanding the complex anatomy of this region is one of the key tools of any practitioner in performing safe, high quality treatments and minimising the risk of minor and more serious complications.

A Prospective Study on Safety, Complications and Satisfaction Analysis for Tear Trough Rejuvenation Using Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler – Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Evidence-based and safe injecting technique is key for a safe filler treatment, especially in the delicate and complex anatomical region around the eye. The first of the AAMG’s internationally published papers details a comprehensive analysis of the safety and quality of the latest cannula technique used for tear trough treatments. 6 researchers, including Trikwan’s Dr Sanjay and Dr Zoya, assessed the benefits of using the new cannula technique, which avoids the use of sharp needles around the eye, and found that it performed significantly better than the old needle technique; reducing the risk of complications, reducing pain felt by the patient and leaving every patient involved in the study with a high level of satisfaction. The study also shed light on the need to wait 4 weeks minimum before administering any additional filler and that a higher volume of filler is needed in those over the age of 35, which are findings we take into consideration when we advise our Trikwan patients. We use all of our knowledge gained from our doctors’ research to advise the treatments we carry out here at Trikwan.

Case Series and Review on Managing Abscesses Secondary to Hyaluronic Acid Soft Tissue Fillers with Recommended Management Guidelines – Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology
Having the knowledge and experience to know what to do if things go wrong, and complications arise, is essential for all aesthetic practitioners. Our latest paper published internationally in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology, is a collaboration between the doctors of the AAMG to create clinical guidelines for managing abscesses that form after filler treatment. Abscesses are a rare complication of filler treatments when you are in the care of a qualified and experienced aesthetic practitioner, but in the unlikely event that they may occur, it is essential to have evidence and experience-based guidelines for how to effectively treat and resolve them. Through a thorough literature review and analysis of first-hand cases of abscess management, our paper has put forward a new set of safe and effective guidelines for aesthetic practitioners to follow, should they encounter this rare complication.

The AAMG
Trikwan Aesthetics’ medical directors, our husband-and-wife doctor duo, Zoya Diwan and Sanjay Trikha, have based their practice on the latest research and evidence-based treatments for their loyal clientele.
However, they wanted to go further in their contribution to the aesthetics profession and to aesthetics research, and so in 2018 they founded the Academic Aesthetics Mastermind Group (AAMG), with the aim of advancing the field of Aesthetic Medicine through education, research and collaboration with their fellow aesthetics practitioners.
As part of this mission the AAMG, led by Dr Zoya and Dr Sanjay, are carrying out research into all aspects of aesthetic medicine and treatment in order to achieve the group’s aims: furthering aesthetics education and research; building a community of likeminded research-driven practitioners; and, importantly, improving treatment outcomes for our patients.
We want to create an open space, free of any negativity to allow growth, education and unity in the industry to ensure patient outcomes are maximised.
Monthly meetings are carried out in which specialist doctors and surgeons from the industry attend and discuss the latest advancements and current research in the industry. Moreover, the group discusses interesting patient cases, anatomy and proposes new research projects to constantly improve treatments and outcomes for our patients.
Our meetings are highly acclaimed and the group has been nominated for the Aesthetics Awards in multiple consecutive years for their contributions to aesthetics research in a series of globally published papers.
If you’re a doctor who is interested in attending these meetings, then please email nina.trikwan@gmail.com.
