Charity

As a team we decided that a charity fundraiser would be a wonderful new challenge to start the year with, while raising money for two causes very close to our hearts. Both Dr Zoya and Dr Sanjay have first-hand experience working in Geriatrics and Psychiatry during their rotations at NHS Hospitals, and both doctors have seen the suffering caused by Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia. 

These two charities, Dementia UK and Alzheimer’s Society were chosen for how they focus their resources in different ways to combat the effects of these conditions. We had representatives of both charities who attended and gave really informative presentations to help raise awareness of the amazing work both charities are doing.

Dementia UK focusses on directly helping families and relatives of those suffering with Dementia. They provide resources and support with gaining a diagnosis, understanding the different types of Dementia and on supporting a friend or relative suffering with the condition. On the other hand, Alzheimer’s Society focusses on funding the research that will go towards improving patient outcomes in the years to come. They cover several facets of Alzheimer’s research, including looking for a cure, improving care and diagnosis of patients, looking into disease prevention and furthering our understanding of the causes of Alzheimer’s Dementia. Both are fantastic charities that we are incredibly honoured to have worked with.
