As collagen and elastin production slows, our skin begins to lose some of the structure that provides the support for underlying tissues of the face. Combine with this the volume loss we experience in our facial fat and the result is an excess of skin that doesn’t have the support to keep it quite in place and so gravity takes its toll and we experience skin sagging. Genetics, smoking, dehydration and any rapid weight loss will speed up the appearance of loose or sagging skin.
