This treatment involves the injection of synthetic deoxycholic acid, which destroys fat cells in the region that it is injected into, leading to improvement of the facial profile and reduced appearance of a ‘double chin’. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring substance which, in the body, is usually used to breakdown and absorb dietary fats. Once deoxycholic acid has acted upon the cells in the under-chin area, they will no longer be able to store or accumulate fat, meaning this treatment is permanent as long as you maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle and diet.

Q. What is the difference between Belkyra and Aqualyx?
Aqualyx and this treatment (Belkyra) contain the same active ingredient, however this treatment is a stronger and more effective treatment than Aqualyx. This treatment has the added benefit of being the only FDA approved submental fat injection treatment in the UK.
Q. Am I a good candidate for treatment?
To be considered for submental fat injections you should be living healthily and exercising regularly, with a balanced diet. Submental fat or a ‘double chin’ will be one of your concerns and despite your healthy lifestyle you have been unable to shift this area of stubborn fat.
Q. How many treatment sessions will I need?
Each patient is unique and your needs in regards to this treatment will vary depending on a range of factors. For most people though we would expect you to need 2-3 sessions 3-6 weeks apart in order to achieve your desired result.
Q. Why is this so new to the UK?
This treatment has been around for a long time and is one of the most sought after aesthetic treatments in the USA. In recent years it has been thoroughly researched and tested in order to finally gain its FDA approval in the UK. The process to gain this approval is a long one and as such, it has taken a long time for this treatment to become available in the UK.
Q. Treatment, Travelling and Big Events
Flying:
Flying can increase the chances of swelling after your treatment, this isn’t a problem and it is still possible to travel around your appointment, but we would recommend using ice to combat any swelling that you experience.
Big Events:
We advise booking far in advance of any big events you have coming up, to allow any swelling to subside and allow us to address any issues or top ups that my need performing to maximise your results. We ask all of our patients who have big events coming up, to get in contact with us before booking so we can best arrange your treatment to happen at the recommended number of weeks before your event.
