Spider veins, also known as thread veins or broken veins, are small twisted veins that can be seen in the face just under the skin. They show up red, blue or purple and are often seen around the cheeks, the nose and the chin. These small veins become greater and more visible when the skin has prolonged exposure to hormones, inflammation, the sun and alcohol and medications.
These small veins appear when small capillaries and vessels break, becoming permanently dilated and therefore visible. The best way to prevent their occurrence is by avoiding excessive drinking, smoking and sun-exposure. Wearing a daily SPF is also a great way to reduce the risk of developing them.
