Treatment

Hyperhidrosis is the fancy name for excessive sweating in the body, it is a condition that affects almost 3% of the population and can occur anywhere on the body, though it is most often seen in the armpits.

Whether it be shirt wearing office workers, athletes or couples preparing for their big day, Hyperhidrosis affects a wide range of people. And while for some, deodorant is the solution for body odour and sweating, others have to put up with more perspiration than usual, causing sweat marks, damaged clothing and offensive body odours. The condition can be particularly distressing, especially as it has the potential to restrict lifestyle, affect relationships and has been known to cause depression.

After a confidential chat with our doctors, we can treat your hyperhidrosis using botulinum toxin injections, which prevent your sweat glands from producing sweat even when you are hot or stressed. Whether you suffer from hyperhidrosis, or would just like to be sweat free, this is the treatment that could lead to a more confident sweat-free you.

Treatment FAQs

Q.  How does it work?

Botulinum Toxin blocks the nerve signals that usually cause you to sweat in response to heat or stress, therefore preventing the sweat glands from making too much sweat.

Q.  What are the aftercare procedures?

Toxin is a quick and safe procedure which has very little impact on usual activity on the day of injection.

  • Utilise the muscles injected for the next 1 hour
  • Stay upright for minimum of 3 hours
  • No make up for 4 hours
  • No rubbing or massaging of the injected area for 4 hours after treatment, including facials.
  • Avoid excessive drinking of alcohol or medically necessary blood thinning medication for 24 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • Avoid headwear that is tightly fitted across the forehead.
  • Avoid getting any facials, skin peels or laser on your face for 2 weeks.

Q.  Are there any side effects?

After treatment you may experience some bruising and small bumps (post injection site swelling). These will settle quickly and are not to be worried about.

Q.  Treatment, Travelling and Big Events?

Travelling:

Flying can increase the chances of swelling after your treatment, this isn’t a problem and it is still possible to travel around your appointment, but we would recommend using ice to combat any swelling that you experience.

Big Events:

We advise booking far in advance of any big events you have coming up, to allow any swelling to subside and allow us to address any issues or top ups that my need performing to maximise your results. We ask all of our patients who have big events coming up, to get in contact with us before booking so we can best arrange your treatment to happen at the recommended number of weeks before your event.

Q.  When will I see results?

You will start seeing results at 2-3 days with maximum effect at 10-14 days. We offer a free top-up treatment 2-4 weeks from your initial treatment day in order to maximise your results, should you need it.
