What To Look For in your Aesthetic Practitioner

Aesthetic procedures are becoming increasingly common in recent years, with more and more celebs and influencers becoming steadily more open about what work they may have and not have had done. As the industry grows, so does the number of providers out there, often with far more attractive prices than outcomes. In an industry that is notoriously under-regulated, and with horror story complications floating around in tabloid newspapers and on our screens (in TV shows like ITV’s Botched), it is becoming more and more important to make sure you know what you are looking for in your aesthetics practitioner. In this blog we are sharing our very own Trikwan Tips for choosing the best clinician for you.

Consultation

Any reputable aesthetics clinic should ensure that you are provided with a thorough consultation to discuss exactly what you are aiming to achieve and advise you on how we can get you there. At Trikwan, this is exactly the approach we take, we are sure to always manage our clients’ expectations so that you can trust in the result we give you.

Credentials

Check their credentials!!! Ask about your practitioners training, experience and insurance. Are they accredited by any associations? Are they members of the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses or Doctors or are they members of British College of Aesthetic Medicine? Any trustworthy practitioner should be a fully qualified medical professional, so make sure you check their registration with the General Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Council or the General Dental Council. All of these organisations allow you to search for your practitioner to make sure they are a genuine doctor, nurse or dentist.

Before and afters

They talk the talk, so can they walk the walk? Ask for before and afters for the treatment you are thinking of getting. Do the results look like what you are looking for? Can they produce lots of high-quality results for you? Make sure you are satisfied that the results are genuine, that they have been achieved by your clinician and that their photos have not been overedited.

Ask questions!

Enter your consultation prepared with a set of questions you have about your procedure, your clinician, your aftercare and any down time you might need. Watch out for false promises. If your clinician is offering a result without evidence to back up the quality of their work, especially if other physicians have warned against a procedure, then make sure you are careful about going ahead. Your practitioner should always give you a realistic expectation of your results during your consultation, and ensure that you are happy with those results, before they carry out your treatment.

Red flags

Finding the right aesthetic practitioner for you is very important and you should always feel comfortable and have total trust in your clinician. It’s important to prioritise the quality of your clinicians work over their pricings, as experienced and highly qualified clinicians may well charge more, but will provide you with much better results. Watch out for any clinician that pressures you into any treatment or wants to go ahead with treatment without taking a medical history. These are immediate red flags that should warn you off receiving treatment.
