Treatment

Polynucleotides have been used in regenerative medicine since the 1950s for the healing of burns and wounds. Now their regenerative powers have been harnessed for skin health. A clinical study on Polynucleotides proved a 47% increase in collagen and a 53% increase in epidermal thickness.

Polynucleotides are an  injectable skin treatment, made from DNA Fractions that are derived from salmon and trout. The DNA is filtered, sterilised and ultra-purified before being injected into the skin. Polynucleotides are a form of regenerative medicine which accelerate the body’s cell regeneration cycle and help to boost the body’s natural repair system. The major benefit of the polynucleotide treatment is that it rebalances skin pigmentation therefore making it excellent for dark circles or tired looking under eyes.

This is an alternative treatment to adding volume by using hyaluronic acid as the fractional DNA initiates regenerative changes on a cellular level. The treatment boosts collagen production and aims to restore hydration, volume and elasticity. It also helps to create an overall tighter and more youthful appearance by only using Natural DNA!

The treatment works by targeting your fibroblasts. Polynucleotides are able to stimulate increased production of collagen by using natural ultra-purified DNA. By targeting your body’s stem cells and fibroblasts (the precursors to your skin cells), your body is able to regenerate your skin cells at an accelerated level.

Polynucleotides have an exceptional safety record and are highly tolerated. This treatment is considered a gold standard treatment for skin regeneration whose safety profile is backed by more than 90 clinical trials. During its history of 1.8 million uses, not a single adverse reaction has been recorded. This type of regenerative treatment is becoming increasingly popular as it provides an alternative injectable option for patients who are not suitable for other injectable treatments, such as tear trough filler.

Treatment FAQs

Q.  Do I need this or tear trough filler?

While both treatments target the under eye, they do so by primarily working in different ways. The tear trough filler treatments acts to restore or add volume where it has been lost, and this helps address the actual trough itself, improving shadowing, light reflection and targeting the hollow. Polynucleotides do not address volume loss, but rather focus specifically on skin quality by increasing elasticity and improving pigmentation. These procedures are often combined together but we advise consultation with one of our doctors to see what you would be most suitable for.

Q.  How many treatments will I need and when will I see results?

We recommend 3 sessions of the treatment for optimal results and then 1 session yearly for maintenance. Results vary per patient but the full results are usually seen in 3-5 weeks after your first treatment. Doing subsequent treatments will ensure the result longevity is maximised.

Q.  What areas can the treatment be performed on?

This treatment is primarily used for the under eyes, however it canl also be performed on the face, neck and body and be used for a range of concerns such as; dark circles, lines and wrinkles, elastosis, loose skin and also hyperpigmentation!

Q.  Are there any risks?

As this is an injectable treatment there may be some temporary bruising and swelling post procedure. As with all injectable treatments, there is always a very small risk of infection involved which can be minimised by having an experienced practitioner who uses the safest techniques and equipment in their injecting. It’s also important to refer to the aftercare provided to avoid infection. We recommend you avoid makeup for 12 hours and avoid touching or washing your face for at least 4 hours.

Q.  Is the treatment painful?

Polynucleotide treatment involves injections into the skin, however, numbing cream is applied before the procedure to make the treatment more comfortable and any pain will be minimal.

Q.  Who is suitable?

Polynucleotides are suitable for most patients. The DNA is derived from fish, however because it is so purified, clinical trials have shown that even patients allergic to fish can safely have the treatment! This is a good option for patients who may not be suitable for tear trough filler. However, we do not perform this treatment on patients who are pregnant or  breastfeeding.
