Cellulite
Cellulite is usually described as dimpling of the skin that occurs around the thighs, buttocks, lower tummy, upper arms and breasts. There is not a lot known about what causes cellulite to develop, but the appearance is due to fibrous cords that connect the skin to the underlying muscle. When fat cells increase between these bands they push up against the skin while the fibrous cords pull down, therefore giving a dimpling affect to the skin. Cellulite is most common in women than men, and most women will develop some cellulite in early adulthood. It is thought that this is because where fat is distributed to in women, is also where cellulite is commonly found. Ageing, genetics and pregnancy and inactivity can all contribute to the likelihood of developing cellulite.
