Excess Skin
Excess Skin usually results from losing a lot of weight, very quickly. This can be achieved through intensive diet and exercise, and can also be due to weight loss surgeries causing you to lose weight quickly. When skin has been stretched for a long time, the collagen and elastin in that skin becomes damaged and the skin loses some of its ability to retract. Age, genetics and the length of time someone has carried extra weight all affect the ability of the skin to retract when that weight is subsequently lost. For some patients the amount of excess skin may be suitable for surgical treatments but for those with a smaller amount of excess skin there are non-invasive options that can avoid the extensive downtime and emotional toll of going under the knife.
