Short Eyelashes
As with most patient concerns, there are a complex combination of reasons why you have or you may develop shorter and thinning eyelashes. Genetics play a big role, meaning that you may be born with much shorter or sparser eyelashes than others. Equally there are some genetic disorders and connective tissues diseases that can cause your eyelashes to fall out at a higher rate than is normal.
As always, age is a really important factor in eyelash length and thickness. As the ageing process starts from 25 onwards, our eyelashes start to naturally lose their thickness, their length, and their pigmentation.
There are a host of other factors that can also affect your eyelash length and thickness. Bad beauty habits, such as not removing mascara, using heat products and rubbing to hard when removing makeup, are all known to affect the growth of your eyelashes. There are also certain medications, such as chemotherapy drugs, which can similarly thin and shorten the eyelashes, or cause them to fall out.
