Dermal fillers, and the results they create, are all over our timelines and featured everywhere in our favourite fashion and beauty magazines. But do you really know what dermal fillers are? What they are made of and how they work? If the answer is no, not really, then this is the blog post for you.

what are dermal fillers

What are the different types of filler?

There are several different types of dermal filler, with the main ones used in the UK, and also the type we use in-clinic, being temporary Hyaluronic Acid based. Hyaluronic Acid is a totally natural substance that already exists in our skin; it is hydrophilic, which means it attracts and holds water to help keep the skin plump and well hydrated. HA fillers are a soft gel-like substance that is injected into different layers of the face depending on what outcome you are looking to achieve. They last anywhere from 6 to 22 months depending on which type of filler is injected and where you have it placed.

To make things more confusing, HA fillers have a lot of different varieties depending on what area and purpose they are supposed to be used for. Different manufacturers supply different types of products and many aesthetic practitioners have favourite products that, for various reasons, they prefer to use. At Trikwan, our highly experienced Doctors Zoya Diwan and Sanjay Trikha will carry out a thorough consultation with you prior to treatment in order to decide what type of filler will be the best fit for you. In clinic we use only the highest quality products from a variety of excellent reputable filler brands, including Teoxane and Juvederm.

There are several other types of temporary dermal filler which are approved but not as often used in the UK. These include calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) filler, which is also a natural substance that is usually produced in your bones and can help stimulate collagen production. Poly-L-lactic Acid is a synthetic filler which also acts as a collagen stimulator. There are a few other types of filler that are permanent or incredibly long lasting with a much more rarely used here in the UK in comparison with temporary dermal fillers.

How do they work?

HA fillers are incredibly versatile, able to add volume and contour, improve the skin’s quality and moisture, and treat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They can be used in a huge variety of places though are usually injected into areas of the face, such as the lips, cheeks, jaw and nose, but are also used to restore volume to the hands and rejuvenate the neck and décolleté areas too. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also reversible as they dissolve slowly over time, how long your filler will last depends on where the filler is placed and what type of filler is used. Testimonials

What our patients really think...

The most professional, down to earth, friendly aestheticians I could of wished for. I was pretty hesitant to get anything done to my face as I didn’t want the typical over done ‘instagram’ look.

I wasn’t pressured into doing anything outright and was told about all the possible options I could take and the differences between them and what would suit me. I have had two sessions and over that time, I am beyond pleased with the the results! Dr Zoya has masterfully kept my face the same but just enhanced and corrected things certain in places.

Would definitely recommend if you want a realistic, subtle, natural yet major improvement to any problem areas.

Visited Trikwan today in London from NYC and it was such a pleasure. Tammy the office manager was so super helpful and nice, she made the whole booking process very easy and was happy to answer any/ all questions. Both Drs were amazing, friendly and professional. They really took the time to work with me and discuss all my needs and wants. I highly recommend this establishment and will be going back! A+
